In the current economic climate, Telematics is still standing out as a rapidly growing market, driven by remote diagnosis, vehicle tracking, intelligent transport systems and infotainment applications. The RE2 from Blue Chip Technology is a low-power, highly-integrated telematics single board computer -  the ideal choice for a wide spectrum of real time vehicle tracking and telematics applications requiring worldwide GPRS roaming and precise GPS positioning.

Applications can run on WIN CE 6.0 or Linux kernel operating systems with a covering Board Support Package (BSP) to speed up application development.  The RE2 combines 20-channel GPS satellite positioning with wireless cellular communication over GSM/GPRS as well as Wi-Fi (802.11) and data transfer using a 10/100Mbit Ethernet interface. Position resolution accuracy is better than 2.5m, onboard 3 Axis accelerometer as well as high sensitivity for indoor fixes are supported, additional features include jamming detection, integrated TCP/IP protocol stack and Easy Scan®. 

The OMAP 3530 ARM Cortex A8 CPU core is supplemented by a 430/520MHz DSP, optimised for hi-speed digital signal processing involved in data capture, processing and transfer. There is also a camera interface and the onboard H.264 codec enables local processing of MPEG2 and MPEG4 video for efficient image transmission.
 
The RE2 single board computer supports all of the key hardware features of a solid embedded engine - 256MB LPDDR and 512MB Flash memory, Serial Ports (3), 10/100 Ethernet, Audio, Touch Screen controller, optional SD, USB Host Ports (4), USB Device Port (1), 12 general purpose I/Os,  DVI/HDMI port, camera interface, Wi-fi and Bluetooth. The industrial build is resistant to shocks and vibrations commonly encountered in vehicle installations and we offer extended temperature options.

All of this functionality has been designed into a board similar in size to a playing card.
