Texas OMAP 3 is the processor architecture behind the success story of the new generation of smart phones. This platform is bringing faster user interfaces, faster data access and rich multimedia output to mobile users, whilst maintaining all the power efficiencies required in a handset. The OMAP 3 core certainly packs a real punch and Blue Chip Technology have harnessed this performance for the embedded designer in creating the RE2 single board computer. The 600/720-MHz ARM Cortex A8 core is further enhanced with a C64x 430/520MHz DSP delivering hi-speed digital signal processing for applications involving video, image and voice processing, data compression/ decompression and real-time computing. To get an idea of what the OMAP 3 generation processors are capable of - they have been rated at about the same speed as Intel's Atom processor per clock cycle. The RE2 single board computer supports all of the key hardware features of a solid embedded engine - 256MB LPDDR and 512MB Flash memory, Serial Ports (3), 10/100Mbit Ethernet, Audio, Touch Screen controller, optional SD, USB Host Ports (4), USB Device Port (1), 12 general purpose I/Os. We also have DVI/HDMI port, camera interface, Wi-f, Bluetooth optional GPRS, GPS, onboard Accelerometer functionality and extended temperature ranges. For developers working with embedded HMI based applications, we have put together REsolution - an OTS package of mounting, interfacing and display options. REsolution makes integrating a RE2 SBC and display fast and easy - eliminating the usual cabling, signalling and power issues and securing problem-free fit, form and function upgrades for the future. |
