REsolution - a winning formula for HMI embedded applications

« back to news

REsolution is the latest RISC based offering from Blue Chip Technology, specifically targeted at developers working with embedded HMI based applications. Comprising the RE1 single board computer, mounting, interfacing and range of display options - you have all the basic building blocks needed for a versatile embedded HMI module. The resulting package is an integrated solution which is small and low power for fanless operation.  The usual cabling, signalling and power issues of integrating a display and embedded board are all managed within the design, which guarantees long term availability and problem free fit, form and function upgrades.

The central RE1 single board computer has a maximum 500MHz CPU speed and an impressive performance per watt of 1.5 watts at 333MHz and 2 watts at 500MHz. An extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C gives the unit an edge in rugged environments. Key hardware features include SDRAM and Flash memory, Serial Ports (3), Ethernet, Audio, Touch Screen, optional SD or Compact Flash, USB Host Port (4), USB Client Port (1) and 13 TTL general purpose I/Os.  An additional 8 bit expansion interface will let customers incorporate further custom I/O designs onto the board, which is slightly bigger than a playing card.

Complimenting the RE 1 SBC is a range of Personality Modules (PM1), a small PCB interface between the display and board with one simple connection. An optional metal mounting plate is also provided, securing the SBC, PM1 and display into one fixed, slimline design component.  Blue Chip Technology have teamed up with Plus Opto, to offer a range of off the shelf TFT LCD displays options with in REsolutiom package. Custom options can also be easily incorporated into the design and where the volume warrants it the whole concept can be brought onto one semi custom board, taking further cost out of the design.

Completing the picture is Blue Chip’s USB enabled Windows CE 6.0 bootloader and supporting Windows desktop configuration utility. This unique GUI facility lets the user quickly optimise their board settings and start developing within minutes of opening the box.   A Linux based version is currently under development, release expected Q2 2009.
