PICMG SLOT SINGLE BOARD COMPUTERS

PICMG single board computers are a specific, plug-in form factor intended to be used in an industrial computer system backplane. The primary advantage of  PICMG Single Board Computers, is the availability of backplanes offering virtually any slot configuration including legacy ISA support. Motherboards only tend to offer 5 expansion slots with PCI-Express becoming the standard.

Complying with PICMG standards, PICMG single board computers feature comprehensive backplane support and are the most flexible and expansible solutions for industrial slot-hungry applications. PICMG Single board computers (SBC) that use PCI and ISA parallel interfaces, plug into a PICMG 1.0 backplane whereas PICMG single board computers which use PCI Express serial links plug into to a PICMG 1.3 backplane and are also called a System Host Boards (SHBs).
